I’d probably pull something trying to emulate the poses of our magnolia trees. Don’t forget that we’ve got our own Instagram feed right here! And you’re always welcome to contort accordingly while visiting our 250 tree-laden acres, though I suspect a little limbering up is in order. —MN
Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPleanwithit
Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a photo announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.
This weekend’s tag was #WHPleanwithit, which asked participants to capture photographs of people standing next to and leaning in the same direction as unique or oddly shaped trees. Every Monday we feature some of our favorite submissions from the project, but be sure to check out the rest here.
I feel the need to post something incredibly cheery in order to combat this crazy dreary morning. Here’s a reminder that in just four short months (give or take) the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden will be springing back to life, full of happy bees and happy New Yorkers! Old olive tree - it’s hollow and charred from having been struck by lightning, but still alive.
Olea europaea has defined cultures for thousands of years; thrives in craggy, chalky soil; and can live and produce fruit for up to two millennia (if not longer), even with its ancient trunk grown into broad and labyrinthine gnarls.
A little lightning is like water off a duck’s back for these troopers. —MN
Admission: there are about 12 Polaroid cameras in my apartment, but film these days doesn’t come easy (or cheap). Instead, I like to fall back on Instagram; don’t forget to tag your Garden shots with #NYBG when you visit us! —MN

Patrick and Humberto from Opening Ceremony came to the Orchid Show and snapped some very cute portraits of themselves. And they’re not alone! We have seen dozens more on Instagram and Flickr.
But we want to know which ones youthink are adorable! Leave a comment on this post with a link to your favorite #orchidshow portrait of you, your best friend, your mom, your husband, your kids, or whomever, and we’ll feature some of our favorites on our blog, Plant Talk! We’re not used to seeing our plants (here Strongylodon macrobotrys) catching a wave on the nail art craze. But there it is! Photographic proof. Wild!

Orchids aren’t just colorful, they also have incredible shapes (Taken with Instagram at The Orchid Show At New York Botanical Gardens)
Last year we noticed that a lot of the people coming to visit The Orchid Show were snapping some pretty sweet orchid shots using Instagram, or just their plain old phone cameras. But they were really hard to keep track of. So this year we put up little signs nudging you guys to tag your photos with #orchidshow. And tag you have! The shots are gorgeous, silly, inspiring, humorous, and incredibly pretty. Here are nine of my personal favorites. ~AR

We love Instagram. Well, everyone else in the office does; I’m an Android guy too far removed from the land of neat filter effects to participate. But regardless of the fact that I can’t join in the fun, Instagram’s Hashtag Project from this past weekend was botanically brilliant.
