The new book by Charles C. Mann, 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created, looks at how the era of exploration, as epitomized by the voyages of Christopher Columbus, changed the world. Through a process called the Columbian Exchange, new fruits, vegetables, and pests were able to colonize new lands, and change the course of human history. Fascinating stuff!
