This beautiful photo seems like a good enough reason to let you know that we’re hosting our winter photo contest inside the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory again this year. We changed the name a little, Tropical Paradise instead of Caribbean Garden, but other than that, it’s still a guaranteed antidote to the winter blues. Grab your camera, join our official Flickr Group Pool, and say sayonara to Seasonal Affective Disorder with some sultry warmth.~AR

Patrick and Humberto from Opening Ceremony came to the Orchid Show and snapped some very cute portraits of themselves. And they’re not alone! We have seen dozens more on Instagram and Flickr.

But we want to know which ones youthink are adorable! Leave a comment on this post with a link to your favorite #orchidshow portrait of you, your best friend, your mom, your husband, your kids, or whomever, and we’ll feature some of our favorites on our blog, Plant Talk! Get ready for your 15 minutes! ~AR

We found this incredible shot of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory on Flickr. It was taken by Nick Normal:

That was a fun image to take. It was the 8th I took of the building from the walkway outside; the first 7 were much more square on the building, and then I walked about 30 more feet, looked sideways again and the slight angle of the building combined with the clouds was just right, so I took the photo again! Hah!

Just awesome! Thanks for letting us share Nick!
Have you taken a great shot at the Garden? Make sure you share it with us in our Flickr Group Pool, and if you’re planning to come for a visit soon, be sure to enter our Caribbean Garden Photography Contest for a chance to win a great prize. ~AR

On Flickr: The 'Collecting Nature' Pool

We were just introduced to this fascinating group pool on Flickr, where members (mostly) share photographs of collections of natural things they have gathered. (Thanks to PoppyTalk for the intro).

Seashells, beach glass, water-smoothed stones, and sea fans are understandably popular. But, there’s also a contingent of photographers sharing their collections of seeds, pods, leaves, pressed flowers, mushrooms, and mosses.  We’re especially smitten with this lush, arboreal still life by Carla Graça.

Do you collect natural things? What are your favorite objects to bring home from a walk?
