What’s Beautiful Now?

The dahlias, for one—between the Seasonal Walk and the Perennial Garden, they’re easily carrying the bulk of the star power. But they’re not as abundant as some of the other plants, depending on the variety, so be deliberate when you’re looking. Some like to play the loner card.

The Rose Garden is still awash in color, and in the Native Plant Garden the wild flush of the meadow flowers is endearing. Over in the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden, you can’t miss the tomatoes—or the melon, squash, cucumbers, and any number of other delicious edibles. We’re using some of them for our Family Dinners with Mario Batali, so keep an eye out for more on those feasts. —MN
