There’s a line to be drawn when it comes to hype, especially in traditional medicine, and researchers are now hoping to make that line a little less hazy with some proper scientific investigation.
There could be as many as 53,000 species of plant out there employed as medicinal remedies at one time or another. But how many of them have legitimate bioactive compounds, and how many are unfounded treatments? By comparing the plant families most often used throughout the world by cultures and communities which otherwise had no contact with each other, scientists think they’ll be able to pin down the winners.
