What’s the Difference Between ‘Determinate’ and ‘Indeterminate’ Tomatoes?
Sometimes, picking a tomato plant can be a bit like choosing a pet. Will it suit your lifestyle, and will you be able to give it the time it needs? Will it outgrow your apartment and wreak havoc on your belongings?
All right, that’s a little more in the vein of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes than I’d intended, but the issue stands: know what you’re getting. In this case, the most important decision lies somewhere between “determinate” and “indeterminate” tomatoes. One will be happy to live out its life in a pot, ringed with the purpose-built cage you picked up along the way. The other, not so much. Treehugger breaks down your options through the link. —MN
