Emily, the blogger behind I Ride the Harlem Line is my kind of amateur historian. She mixes quixotic passion (New York City’s railroad history) with single-minded focus (specifically the Harlem Line). The Harlem Line, which is the line you still take to the Garden, was once owned by the New York Central company, who just 13 years after the Garden’s founding published this guide to the Bronx Park (which included the Zoo). Click through to see the beautiful illustrations, to read Emily’s commentary, and to pore over the quaint descriptions. It’s a charming trip back in time. ~AR
