"Her art life began with the close of her professional life; Henig describes retirement as a time to exercise the other side of her brain. It actually all began with her love of nature and art courses she took at the New York Botanical Garden. After splitting up the various courses Henig earned a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration. She said she didn’t need art experience to be part of the program- she started with basic drawing, then to using pen and ink and finally watercolor. Henig had homework and final projects and critiques."
