Painter, Photographer, Gardener — Elizabeth Murray Brings Monet to New York

More than simply an Impressionist master, Claude Monet was also a master of his garden—Giverny—the wild landscape of color and life which belied a meticulously-arranged aesthetic. And few Monet experts understand the garden in which Monet painted so many of his masterpieces like Elizabeth Murray.

Elizabeth’s eye is well-trained with a background in painting and photography. But it’s her gardening prowess as one of the restorers of historical Giverny that really rounds out her impressive curriculum vitae. With Monet’s Garden at the NYBG just around the bend, Murray’s course on garden photography—as well as the French home of the world’s most revered water lilies—is the perfect opportunity to hone your skill as a shutterbug and pick up some related knowledge along the way.
